Department of Linguistics Applied to Science and Technology

The Department of Linguistics Applied to Science and Technology of the U.P.M. was created in 1987 being its first headquarters at the School of Civil Engineering, Channels and Ports.

Later, in 1989, the headquarters were moved to the School of Computer Engineering, in 1996 to the School of Mining and Energy Engineering and in July, 2004 to the School of Forestry Engineering and Natural Resources. From June, 2012 the headquarters of the Department are located in the School of Engineering and Telecommunication Systems.

The Department of Applied Linguistics is in charge of the teaching of modern languages in the different Centers of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (Technical University of Madrid). Currently, a common compulsory subject “English for Professional and Academic Communication” is taught by the Department staff across University in every Center with the only exception of the Degree in Civil Engineering.

The Direction board consists of:

A Director: Antonio Martínez Sáez(Higher Techinical School of Agronomics, Food and Biosystems Engineering) (School of Naval Arquitecture and Marine Engineering).

An Academic Secretary: Lourdes Pomposo Yanes (Higher Techinical School of Agronomics, Food and Biosystems Engineering).

An Assistant Director for Internal Matters: Silvia Molina Plaza (School of Naval Arquitecture and Marine Engineering).

A Subdirector for External Matters: Arsenio Andrades Moreno (Higher Technical School of Computer Systems Engineers).

Administrative Secretary: Immaculada Almodóvar Martín (School of Engineering and Telecommunication Systems)

The teachers of the Department collaborate with the Vicerrectorate of International Relations, through Professor Mª Manuela García Fernández, Director of PROLINTER (Program of Languages for the Internationalization).
